LINE GUARDS
Our Polyethylene (plastic) Line Guards are used by Utilities and Electrical Contractors and are designed to provide temporary electrical insulation and/or mechanical protection and/or visual warning of Power Lines and Wires. These robust units have decades of engineering and development to ensure the highest quality and safety standards. The Guard is typically a plastic split tube design to allow straight forward installation over conductors and wires in the field. Depending on the type of product, they may also interlock (male and female) to extend a continuous length along the wire.

Lion Tails™ are a high quality and dependable product. Utilized by Lineman during pole settting, or other maintenance activities, or installed on wires that approximate construction sites to provide additional protection. They come in several options including Class 2 14.6Kv, or Class 3 26Kv. Class leading, light weight, easy to handle and compliant with applicable ASTM standards and codes.

Tiger Tails™ have become an industry standard and are a trusted name in Power Line safety. They are unique in being the only known product of it’s kind to display a yellow and black stripe along its length providing the highest level of visibility. Tiger Tails™ are certified to both AS 4202 and ASTM F712. This includes a voltage rating of 650v for AS 4202 Class I and up to 14.6 Kv for ASTM F712 Class 2. Unique striped pattern, is heavily utilized in the safety industry for it’s stand out pattern creating a penetrating visual element.

“Panther Tails™” are a unique range of line guard that has been designed to prevent contact between trees, vegetation and power lines. Tree branches can cause mechanical damage as they rub and strike conductors and wires. Wet tree branches and vegetation can also become conductive and create a bridge between phases. This has been witnessed to cause arcing and sparks setting the vegetation on fire with potentially catastrophic results. Panther Tails™ have a unique dual layer pattern, black outer, yellow inner as an additional safety feature. That is, they can be visually inspected for wear. Their black exterior provides a subtle visual element blending in with the surrounds.

Possum Tails are designed to cover distribution conductors and wires to help prevent wildlife electrocutions and subsequent outages. They also assist in the prevention of wildfires and bushfires that can be caused by animal electrocution and subsequent outages. Formulated with a proprietary blend of V0 flame retardant silicone rubber, providing excellent weathering resistance. Designed to be light weight to minimise conductor loadings and easy to install. Possum Tails are the only product on the market to provide a superior electrical rating of 38kv line voltage (IEEE 1656) while being thinner and lighter. This is because of the unique extended lip or overlap which prevents tracking or leaking of current over the surface of the rubber. This is especially useful in situations where there is a bend or radius in the cable which needs to be covered.

Guy Guards provide a secure way to help visualize, warn and protect stay and guy wires from any unintended contact with plant, equipment or the public.

Jumper Wire Guards unlike most other Guards in the range, are of a corrugated design to impart a level of flexibility in the product. They are ideal for covering Bridges, Bonds or Jumper Wires and are electrically rated up to 14.6 Kv as a Class 2 Cover.

Class I rates the product for use up to 650v
Line Guards are typically installed on Power Lines as a visual warning around Construction and Building sites or prior to setting Utility Poles. According to ASTM F712 they are suitable for protection from accidental brush contact from live electrical conductors.
The Line Guards are an industry standard product for decades internationally. Manufactured in Japan in an ISO certified facility to exacting standards. The quality of these products has been relied upon by major Utility companies throughout the world.
The weight varies depending on size and length, but typically can weigh just over 1 kg. Please download individual Data Sheets for specific information.
Many of the products have a “dual colour contrasting construction”. This provides an additional safety feature thereby alerting users to damage with a visual cue if the outer layer becomes worn or damaged. There is also the option for a unique striped pattern (known as Tiger Tails™), this provides a visual advantage by alternating black and yellow contrasting colours on the exterior.
Tiger Tails™, Lion Tails™, and Panther Tails™ are all forms of polyethylene line guards used as electrical line protection, but they serve slightly different roles depending on the application. Our Tiger Tails™ for power lines are widely used across Australia as highly visible power line safety covers. Their distinctive striped pattern provides strong visual warning and makes them a common choice for construction power line safety equipment and vegetation power lines work zones. They’re certified to AS 4202 and ASTM F712, with voltage ratings suited to both low and medium voltage environments.
Balmoral Lion Tails™ are designed for linemen and contractors needing lightweight, easy-to-handle overhead power line guards during tasks such as pole setting or maintenance. They are available in different voltage classes, making them suitable as electrical line guards where temporary insulation and mechanical protection are required.
Balmoral Panther Tails™ focus more on electrical line protection in environments with vegetation risk. Their dual-layer design helps reduce the chance of trees contacting live conductors, supporting bushfire mitigation for power lines and improving transmission line safety in high-risk areas.
Jumper Wire Guards are a specialised type of line guard designed for flexibility, where standard rigid polyethylene line guards are not suitable. While typical overhead power line guards use a split tube design for straight conductors, Jumper Wire Guards feature a corrugated profile that allows them to bend and move with jumper wires, bridges, and bonds. This makes them well suited for complex sections of overhead power line equipment where movement or vibration is expected.
Like other power line safety equipment, Jumper Wire Guards provide both mechanical protection and electrical insulation, typically rated up to Class 2 (around 14.6 kV). Standard line guards and power line safety covers are better suited to straight runs of conductor, where they can be installed in continuous lengths, sometimes interlocking to extend coverage. Both play a role in wildlife harm mitigation for power lines, vegetation management, and overall electrical line protection, depending on the specific installation conditions.
