ROTAMARKA™ Bird Diverters

Power Line Warning Markers (ROTAMARKA™) and Bird Diverters provide an excellent visual warning. This can be for Birds, low flying aircraft, mining plant and construction equipment where accidental contact or collision is at risk.

ROTAMARKA™ Bird Diverter and Warning Marker range are purpose built and designed to provide an engineered outcome.

They can be installed for both temporary and long term demarcation of Power Lines, cables, wires and conductors.

The three dimensional articulated design is Patent Pending and rotates and agitates in even low wind conditions providing a superior visual indicator from all angles of approach.

Contrasting colours increase the visual impact. Known as internal contrast, this is important due to varying background lighting conditions.

The clamp is universal and fits a range of conductors opening and closing from 2-50mm. Soft jaws increase grip to stop cable creep.

High quality reflectors increase the visual impact.

Available with an Eye Ring fitting to work with standard live line tools. Can be installed from the ground with Telescopic Hot Sticks.

Bird Flight Diverters (ROTAMARKA™)

For mitigation of Bird Wire strikes. This has been and continues to be a critical issue from an environmental stand point with many endangered species colliding with both Distribution and Transmission Utility Lines. This also creates problems for the Utilities and their customers with resulting outages and damage to infrastructure. The Balmoral Bird Diverters have been designed in collaboration with a leading Professor of Avian Sciences and industry experts. Built with a unique Black and White design which has been carefully selected to provide the highest visual impact on birds. The inclusion of black and white elements provides a superior level of internal contrast irrespective of background conditions and light. The three dimensional nature of the product is also unique, allowing birds to visualise the product in full from any approach angle. The custom white colour reflects both sun and moon light and imitates the native signalling present in the plumage of some bird species.

Power Line Markers for the Building & Construction Industry (ROTAMARKA™) “URBAN MARKERS”

Building and construction sites the world over face safety risks every day. One of these is the proximity of live overhead Power Lines and Wires which pose a risk to Earth Moving equipment, Cranes and other plant which may breach clearances and come into contact with live wires. This has the potential to cause injury or even death. The cause is usually related to the overhead Powerlines not being seen by the operators of the plant and equipment. The Balmoral Markers have been specifically designed to maximise their visual impact by rotating multi coloured fins in three dimensions. When installed on Utility overhead wires, they assist operators locate and plan to avoid any potential contact between the Powerlines and plant.

In the Agricultural industry, low flying aircraft and farm plant can collide with hard to see poles and wires. Aerial Agricultural activities routinely increase the risk of these scenarios occurring. Crops Duster pilots often must navigate fields where power lines cross or border. These power lines are integral to the electrical supply of the farm, but due to their hard to see nature, pose a real threat to pilots. Power Line Markers for the Mining Industry (ROTAMARKA™)

With onsite high voltage power and electrical infrastructure, risk of contact between plant and machinery and power lines is a constant threat. With overhead lines and wires notoriously difficult to visualise and mining activities occurring throughout the night and day, the Balmoral Markers can provide part of the preventative strategy companies can take to reduce or stop dangerous and costly incidents. The key aspect of the Balmoral Line Marker is the ability to rotate in the wind providing an element of movement. This creates a dynamic warning that is efficient in a range of lighting conditions. Mining electrical infrastructure can be set at a range of voltages required to drive plant and equipment on-site. These voltage are typically high in order to sufficiently power large machinery. This makes the potential risk even higher, since greater voltages means increased chance of the electricity finding an unplanned earth or ground.

Q:What is the strength of the clamp?

Nylon 6 is a high strength material that has been used in the Electrical Industry for various connectors and clamps for over 30 years. It has also been used in many industries where High Strength is required, including the Motor Industry for various vehicle components such as Water Pumps etc.

Q:What is the UV resistance?

Nylon 6 has been used in the Electrical Industry for over 30 years in various outdoor components and clamps. It includes UV stabilisers and has been proven to be very stable in outdoor conditions. All the metal components are made of Stainless Steel or Brass and are known to be very durable in outdoor conditions. The Polypropylene Fins use a pigment with a colour fastness rating of 7 (scale from 1 – 8 highest). They are also UV stabilised. These factors combine to ensure both excellent colour stability and structural integrity of the fins.

Q:Will the clamp damage the cable when tightened?

No. All Clamping Components are manufactured in high strength Nylon 6 (not metal) and the Clamp Fingers are lined with rubber which will mould around the conductor and not crush or deform it.

Q:What cleaning is required?

As per normal Power Line Components, no cleaning is required, however, if desired, the Warning Marker can be cleaned with mild detergent and water.

Q:What is the weight of the Marker?

The standard Marker weighs around 885 grams.

Q:What Line Loading results from installation of the Markers?
  • At a wind speed of 18kph, 1.4N (143 grams per Marker)
  • At a wind speed of 36kph, 5.8N (591grams per Marker)
  • The Markers combine a Universal Joint hinged mechanism with rotation which helps dissipate wind loadings and maximises the visual performance of the device.
